Frequently Asked Questions

WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR A MEMBERSHIP?

When you join, you know right away that it isn’t a typical provider’s office. Forget about the headaches and frustrations you experienced before. You now have trusted providers ready to care for you. Once you join our practice, we will schedule a “get to know you” visit in order to get a medical and family history and get current weight/heights on the kids in case we need to treat them outside of business hours.

You will have longer face to face time, better communication, and no wait times. You will be able to text us. You will be able to call your provider directly (no middle men like front office or nurse lines!) with any questions. Our focus is keeping your kids healthy and giving you peace of mind.

In the FreedomDoc membership model, parents/patients are free to talk to their provider whenever and wherever they need them, with no extra costs. This significantly increases access to a provider and decreases the cost to the patient. Being able to talk to your provider when you need them has tons of benefits.

We have chosen a membership model because it’s affordable to the patient and allows us to take care of our patients (whom we love!) in the best way we know how.

WILL I SAVE MONEY?

Numerous reports show better care and cost saving throughout the United States. In an actuarial study, they found that our type of practice led to fewer specialist referrals, hospital admissions, and ER visits.

The only change is that we’ve partnered with resources that may save you additional money if you would like to pay cash rather than submit to insurance. For example, we’ve partnered with labs, imaging centers, and a prescription wholesaler for dramatically lower cash-based pricing. However, if you still would like to run these through your insurance you can. We can provide you with those options that allow you to make the right decision based on your situation.

HOW DO I COMMUNICATE WITH YOU?

Our practice leverages a telemedicine app that allows us to be available after hours, especially in urgent concerns. This dedicated tool allows us to securely text, video chat, and send pictures in real time. If we determine that you need to visit the office, we have same day visits for acute concerns or next day appointments available for less urgent concerns.

HOW ARE OFFICE VISITS HANDLED?

It’s easy – schedule a visit via secure messaging or call. Since our visits are extended you can show up at your scheduled time and know there will not be a wait. We also have the option of a televisit as an alternative for a quick checkup or if you’re sick at home and would prefer not to come in. As a member of our practice there are no additional charges to see us-ever!

WILL YOU ALLOW ME TO SEE YOU WITHOUT SIGNING UP FOR A MEMBERSHIP?

You never know what the future holds for your health, so we would always suggest joining for a membership to take advantage of our time to get ahead of any problems that may pop up. If you aren’t sure if a membership is right for you, whether it be financial, for your health, or otherwise, you can always contact us so we can sit down and help you work through your decision.
We know kids can get sick quickly, occasionally we will see kids for an acute care visit that is not a member. We make these decisions on an individual basis. We will only accept a certain number of members and then close enrollment to ensure we can be available when needed to our members.

HOW MANY PATIENTS WILL YOU SEE?

Because our main priority is you and we want to make sure we are available for you while maintaining little to no wait, same day or next day visits, as well as non rushed, 30-60 minute visits, we cap our patient panel at 300-400 patients for the practice (a traditional panel is 2000-3000 patients per provider!).

WHAT ABOUT LABS, IMAGING, AND PRESCRIPTIONS?

Through our national FreedomDoc network, we’ve partnered with local companies that provide our patients discounts for paying with cash. However, if you still would like to submit to your insurance you are welcome to do so.

WHAT IF I NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL?

If you feel like your child needs to go to the hospital, please call and discuss with us at any time. We can help you decide whether it’s something we can take care of or if the emergency room is necessary. As your private provider, we would like to be involved in your hospital care—whether to speak to the emergency room provider or the in-patient provider to assist in your care. We are also happy to help arrange for your care after you return home.

CAN I USE MY HEALTH INSURANCE?

Our practice welcomes all patients – no matter what kind of health plan you do or do not have. We like to say everything done within the walls of or by the practice is covered by the membership. If you need to go outside the office – like for labs, blood work, or specialists you can use your health plan like you normally would.

DO I STILL NEED HEALTH INSURANCE?

We recommend you continue to have some type of health plan coverage. Should your child need to be hospitalized or need some type of surgery, traditional health care will be needed. Many times a high deductible plan with a low monthly premium will help families save money.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS INDIANA MEDICAID?

Medicaid offers a low baseline of primary care services and typically makes it hard to gain personal access to a primary care provider. Medicaid does not cover our monthly membership fees, but you are able to use Medicaid to cover any prescriptions, specialty office visits, labwork or imaging services.

CAN I PAY WITH MY HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT (HSA)?

Some families utilize their health savings (HSAs), flexible spending (FSAs) or health reimbursement accounts (HRAs) to pay our fees as “qualified medical expenses”. Legal experts have recommended these patients follow the best practice of paying annually or semi-annually. If requested, we can provide you with an invoice and/or submit a notice to your employer if any questions arise about our programs. Please note that we cannot provide tax or legal advice, and you should consult your own tax advisor for guidance.

IS THERE A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT?

We do not have a long-term commitment. If you are unhappy with the services OR for any reason wish to cancel your contract, you may do so with a 30-day notice. You will continue to benefit from our services until the next payment is due.
